On The Bay / WIP

Virginia

It's not uncommon for us to work with an architect on a team of design consultants for a common client, but on rare privileged occasions, we get to design the personal property of an architect. This client has a beachfront property where it not only overlooks the bay, but the house happens to straddle two non-tidal wetland conditions. This is a dynamic site with sensitive natural systems to protect and enhance, in junction with added recreation program for its inhabitants. The proposed elements of our design include:

  • Extensive native plant palette edited down to meet our client’s specific site environment & wetland type footprints. Other regional nursery stock is utilized in compliment to geometries of program footprint and native site environment.

  • Maximize and enhance usable pedestrian recreation spaces and tight vehicular footprints, as well as create a hardscape armature and framework that facilitates better/more definitive access between beachfront and house plinth footprint areas.

  • Wetland footprints are preserved and enhanced with native plantings, as well as engaged with opportunities for pedestrian exploration and observation of the existing fluctuating natural systems of the site environment.
